Back some 13 or 14 years ago, I took this photo of my 2nd great-grandfather's headstone. It was practically illegible at the time and I imagine is much worse today. I wish I had know how to clean it up some to get a better picture but this is the best I have.
Headstone for Isaiah Stewart
born: 24 Feb 1791 in Montgomery, Kentucky
married: 1. Jane McCullough about 1811
2. Mary Jane Benefiel 24 Mar 1821
died: 20 Nov 1868 in Jefferson, Indiana
buried in Canaan Cemetery, Jefferson, Indiana
Hi, I don't know if you are still active on this site, but this is my great-great-great grandfather through Mary Jane Benefiel who is buried next to him. Last year, one of my cousins from the area had his stone repaired. I have a current picture. I have been trying to research Isaiah's father from Kentucky and would glad of any information you have there. Let me know and how to contact you. Suzanne
ReplyDeleteHi Suzanne,
DeleteI have been very bad about blogging for awhile but I am still active. I have lots of info on the Stewart/Benefiel/Bucannan lines. However, I too have not beenable to trace David Stewart, Isaiah's Dad, beyond Kentucky. Actually, I have some doubts about what I have found. I think there may be a generation skipped.
You can contact me at bhiggins9@gmail.com. I'll be happy to share what I have. I'm not currently working these lines because I'm trying to get a book out on my mother-in-law's family.
